SOLUTIONS | ADULT LIMB SALVAGE
Reconstruction built around what the resection leaves behind.
When a sarcoma resection, infection or removes a segment of bone or joint, the replacement has to match exactly what was taken — no more, no less. We support the surgical team from imaging review through to surgery and post-operative surveillance.
RECONSTRUCTION
A wide resection for bone or soft-tissue sarcoma or infection management can leave a segmental defect spanning most of a femur, tibia or humerus. Off-the-shelf modular segmental systems cover many cases; the rest need a fully custom implant, designed around the patient's own resection margins and matched to the joint mechanics either side of it.
Our custom-made implant pathway supports surgeons from initial case referral through design, funding approval and delivery into theatre.
HOW OKELVA SUPPORTS THIS
STEP 1
Case Review
Review of patient clinical needs, imaging, resection plan and margins alongside the surgical team before design begins.
STEP 2
Design Liaison
Working with the implant manufacturer to deliver off-the shelf or custom made components matched to patient-matched geometry.
STEP 3
Funding Approvals
Okelva works with the hospital team to secure ex-gratia insurance funding for non-listed custom implants.
STEP 4
Theatre Support
The week of surgery: implant handling and kit assembly, and intraoperative technical support.
STEP 5
Follow Up
Surveillance of function and outcomes, and supporting revision pathway planning if needed.
